Implant Service

What is an implant?

The implant is a soft piece of plastic that’s put in under the skin of the inner arm. This lasts for up to 3 years and contains progestogen which is very similar to one of the body’s own hormones.

What we do:

We offer counselling, fitting and removal of hormonal implants. This is currently done at Priorslegh Medical Centre.

Who provides the service:

GP Dr Fiona Ellison-Smith currently provides this service and is supported by our excellent HCAs and nurses.

Further Information:

Information regarding implants (and other forms of contraception) can be found at the following links: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/ &    https://www.contraceptionchoices.org/

How to access the service:

If you would like to have a new implant fitted, a current one changed, or just a removal please contact any of the Middlewood surgeries who will let Dr Ellison-Smith know. She will then contact you via text to arrange the initial telephone counselling appointment (so please ensure that we have the correct mobile phone number for you).

The face to face fitting/removal appointment will be on a separate day following this. These clinics are on a Friday morning. If this is not a time that would work for you please contact Axess at Macclesfield Hospital who may be able to offer you a different day https://livewellservices.cheshireeast.gov.uk/Services/737/Axess-Sexual-Health
