Middlewood is committed to providing patients with good continuity of care, offering appointments with the same regular doctor as much as possible when it’s clinically appropriate.
Where possible, this is likely to be a GP that you have a established relationship with or one you have seen most frequently over the years. We refer to this as your ‘Usual GP’. Patients who are newly registering to with the surgery will be assigned a ‘Usual GP’ based on their preferred practice and the availabilty within each GP’s list.
You may request to see a different clinician for a specific issue without changing your Usual GP; for example, you may prefer to see a male or female GP for a particular health concern. Patients are also entitled to seek a second opinion, which can be provided by another GP within the practice if they feel this would be helpful to their care.
Patients have the right to request a change to their Usual GP; if you choose to do this we will allocate you to a different GP at the same practice, based on the existing list sizes and availability. Middlewood may, on occasion, need to change a patient’s Usual GP without prior notification. This is typically because of staffing changes and to ensure safe and timely access.
If you would like to see a different clinician for your problem or to change your Usual GP, please discuss this with one of our Patient Services Advisors over the phone or in person.
