Temporary Changes to Sick Notes

There is a temporary change in the requirements in the proof of sickness notes such as fit notes in order to free up more GP time to work on the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

From the 10th December employers can only ask employees for fit notes after 28 days of sickness including non-working days.  Proof of sickness cannot be requested earlier than 28 days.

What this means is that you don’t need to get a sick note until you have been off for 28 days and can self certify until then.
