Who are the Medico-Legal Team?
The Medico-Legal Team at Middlewood, comprised of dedicated administrative staff supported by GPs, provides assistance for non-NHS administrative tasks that require healthcare input. Medico-Legal services focus on completing forms, producing reports, and providing letters necessary for legal, insurance, or occupational purposes—services outside the scope of routine NHS care.
Since this work is classified as private and outside NHS funding, it involves additional administrative resources; therefore, fees are applied.
Who is this service for?
The Medico-Legal service is available to any Middlewood patient who requires assistance with non-NHS administrative tasks, such as completing forms, letters, or legal documents related to medical records, insurance, travel, DVLA reports, disability claims, and similar documentation.
How do I access this service?
To access the Medico-Legal service, patients can either send an email to the team at cmicb-cheshire.middlewood.medico-legal@nhs.net or submit a PATCHS request. Patients may call any of our surgeries and ask to be transferred to the Medico-Legal Team if they would like to speak to a member of the team directly for advice, but please be aware we require all requests to be submitted in writing.
Where is the service provided?
The Medico-Legal team is based at McIlvride Medical Practice, but patients may collect completed documents from any of the Middlewood surgeries (Bollington Medical Centre, McIlvride Medical Practice, Priorslegh Medical Centre, or Schoolhouse Surgery). The team will call in advance to arrange collection for any completed documents from a patient’s local surgery.
What can I expect to happen?
Once you submit your request, the Medico-Legal team will assess it and contact you if any additional information is needed. They will provide an estimated completion time and discuss any associated fees. The completion process typically takes up to one calendar month from the date the team receives the request. If there are any exceptional circumstances, they will discuss these with you directly.
How long can I expect to wait?
The completion of your request may take up to one calendar month. This timeframe may vary depending on the type of request, and you will be informed of any anticipated delays. A medical examination will be booked within 6-weeks of Middlewood receiving the request.
How long is the appointment?
Unless you are required to take a medical evaluation, this service does not require an in-person appointment, as all work is conducted through document processing. A medical evaluation will usually take around 30-minutes.
