Good news for Middlewood patients (but please do NOT contact us about it!)

Good news for Middlewood patients (but please do NOT contact us about it!)

At Middlewood, we remain absolutely committed to playing our part in protecting our patients from COVID 19.  We are delighted to announce that we will be continuing to offer vaccines to all individuals in the remaining cohorts (18-39 years) with appointments starting as soon as possible.

Just a couple of reminders!

Middlewood successfully delivered over 22,500 first and second doses of the COVID vaccination from the Civic Centre in Poynton.  This includes vaccinations in every care home in the area and to our vulnerable patients who are housebound.

We have now also administered over 6,000 boosters to our over 40s and clinically vulnerable patients.

These experiences have allowed us to establish excellent systems and processes which many of you have witnessed and experienced.  Hence, there is NO need to contact us to book an appointment – we will be in touch!

Please read the following information carefully:

  • Recent evidence suggests that having a COVID booster is really important to provide effective protection from the Omicron variant.
  • All individuals over 18 will be eligible for a covid booster from 3 months after their second dose.
  • All boosters will be either Pfizer or Moderna – we cannot influence the NHS England vaccine delivery process and cannot offer you a choice of booster jab. Both products offer the same level of protection.
  • Boosters will all be given at the Poynton Civic Centre, by Middlewood staff and our wonderful team of volunteers.
  • You will be invited for a vaccine with Middlewood by text message.  This will happen in time order based on capacity and vaccine supply with those due earlier invited first.  Please do not contact the practice to try and book your appointment until you have been invited.
  • If we do not have your mobile phone number, we will write to you the way we did in the previous COVID vaccine campaign.
  • You can also get a COVID booster at other external sites and can book this via the link below.  These sites are awaiting the ‘green light’ from NHS England.

And finally, please help us to help you…

Just like the rest of the NHS, there is intense pressure on our services and all staff are working at full capacity to keep everything running.  There is a lot of information available on the websites above about the COVID vaccines.  Please try to find the information you need from these sources.  A significant amount of our administrative and clinical time is now being spent on answering queries about COVID vaccines.  This is taking staff away from other important roles.  Please be assured any clinical questions about your booster can be answered at the time of your appointment.

Continue to look after yourself and be mindful of the government guidance about COVID to help protect yourself and our community.  If you develop any symptoms which could represent a new Covid infection, then please organise a PCR test rather than relying on lateral flows.  This is critical to monitor the spread of the new Omicron variant.

Thank you for all your support!
