COVID -19 VACCINATION PROGRAMME UPDATE

COVID -19 VACCINATION PROGRAMME UPDATE

We want to continue sharing our progress with the Middlewood COVID-19 Vaccination programme.  It is with great pride that I can now tell you we have vaccinated 11,042 patients. Our vaccination programme started the week commencing the 11th of January so this has been achieved in 10 weeks.  Thank you again to everyone for all their hard work in supporting us to achieve this.  A total of 16,433 patients who are registered with Middlewood have now received the first vaccination.

Key dates for the next couple of weeks:

  • Second vaccinations to begin week commencing 29th March and our clinics may run into the Easter weekend depending on delivery day.  If you are asked to book over the Easter weekend please do so – this is not a mistake and we will need people to attend on these dates as we will have to use the vaccine within a short time frame of receiving it.
  • Nursing homes and housebound patients to begin second vaccinations from 29th March

Vaccine Supply

You may have seen in the news that there have been issues with vaccine production meaning there will be supply interruptions in the coming weeks.  We have been advised that for this reason, we are only able to vaccinate those patients:

  • Who have not received first vaccination in cohort’s 1-9 (over 50 and those under 50 who have been identified as clinically vulnerable)
  • Who are due second vaccinations

Any patients aged 50 or over can now book a vaccine online at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

We have been assured that there will be enough vaccines for Middlewood patients to receive their second dose.  Second doses cannot be given early for the reasons explained above.  Please do not contact us about second vaccination dates, we will get in touch when we have a supply and a date to vaccinate you.

We have had a significant increase in our requests through AskMyGP recently and anticipate this may be our busiest week ever.

Together  we have done so well getting to this point but this is not the end.   With the help and support of you our patients, our staff, and volunteers we have to do the whole thing again in order to give everyone their second vaccinations.

So please once again can we ask you to bear with us during this extremely busy time and wherever possible and appropriate remember to use self-care and your local pharmacy team to deal with any minor illness.

Please stay safe and continue to adhere to all the national guidance and hopefully, all our efforts will continue to slowly improve the situation moving forward.

Thank you for your support.
