As we start to ease out of lockdown and normality appears in the distance, clinics and services long forgotten can start to make a reappearance. Coil clinic is one of these.
The coil service at Priorslegh has been running for quite a few years now and after a Covid-19 (and maternity leave!) induced break is now back up and running weekly. Inevitably we have had to adjust to the ever present Covid-19 precautions and make it safe for our patients and staff. These changes include longer appointments to allow for additional cleaning between patients, use of PPE and less time spent face to face in the practice. As a result the format is now as follows:
- Telephone counselling appointment (15 minutes) – this will be arranged by the practice to discuss your coil – this can be a new fitting or change of a current coil. More information regarding coils (and other forms of contraception) can be found at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/ & https://www.contraceptionchoices.org/ .
- Fitting appointment (25-30 minutes) – this is arranged by the GP doing the telephone counselling and is normally a couple of weeks after the telephone appointment.
The clinic is currently being run by Dr Ellison-Smith who has qualifications from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare in contraceptive coil and implant insertion and removal. She is assisted by our capable and friendly nursing staff.
If you would like to have a coil fitted, changed or removed please contact the Middlewood Partnership via askmyGP or telephone. ‘
