A message from the Middlewood Partners
We know that people are anxious about the recent reports in the press of the variant to the Coronavirus. We understand that this, on top of everything else that has happened this year, raises further concerns and worries for people. The emergence of the new variant is the last thing we all wanted to hear, especially with the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccination programmes in sight.
As GPs we know very little more about this new variant than you do. We don’t yet know whether what looks to be a highly transmissible variant has any major practical implications for what we are doing in general practice. However, we have reason to be optimistic, given it is being reported that the immune response to the new vaccines is good. Early indications being reported are that the new variant may not make people any more ill but that it is likely to be more easily transferred.
We would therefore remind everyone that it is still vitally important that you continue to socially distance, maintain hand hygiene and wear face masks as recommended. Protecting ourselves, our staff and our patients is our top priority if we are to minimise the impact of the virus.
We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Once again can we ask that you bear with us during this exceptionally busy time and remind you that wherever possible, and appropriate, remember to use self-care and your local pharmacy team to deal with any minor illness.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support over the past year and wish you a happy, healthy 2021.
